JANUARY
News at the Market. Although the market is closed right now, we will be back in April, with lots of spring greens, to start the year off.
Out in the Field. January is the month that we set out onions. In our greenhouses we will be starting cabbage, broccoli, lettuce, beets, and collards. We will be mulching some of the more tender fruit trees, and vegetables, like garlic, or will be covering some of them up. On the rainy days we clean our tools, or make a list of the ones that need replacing, and do maintenance on our equipment. On the coldest days, some of us stay in doors and go through the next seasons seed catalogs, to find out what is new for the next summer. The more hardy of the farmers, are out in the weather trying to get their gardens ready for planting in the spring, so that they can be the first on the market with their vegetables. We will be going through the fruit tree catalogs, and are clearing land to plant them, or getting a plot all ready cleared, ready to plant the new trees that are coming in. Although we aren't coming to the market, we are still real busy planning and working for the next years crop.
