News at the Market: Although the market is just open Tuesday and Saturdays now, we still have lots of produce coming in. We have late tomatoes, okra, peppers, SWEET POTATOES, squash, potatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, collards, peas, and turnip greens. For fruit we have apples, pears, and muscadines. We have several new sellers which keeps the market full with produce.
September is national Honey month. We have 2 sellers at the market that sell honey, David Dowdy, (has already sold all his honey, but will be down with candles, and bees wax decoration further along in the season), and Jim Hudson. Seeing as this is hay fever season, the saying is a teaspoon of honey goes along way to help this.
Out in the Field: One of the reasons that we cut back to 2 day a week at the market is to give the farmers time to get in their fall crops, so that even in the winter the produce is the freshest it can be. We are planting collards, all kinds of greens, all kinds of root crops, like rutabagas, beets, onions, radishes. All kinds of lettuces.
Upcoming Events: Next month we will be having our Harvest Festival, and Appreciation day. In November we will have a Christmas kick off to show all the kinds of Christmas decorations that we will have at the market. Keep informed of what is happening at the market with the newsletter and face book.
Thanks,
Alice Parker
