OCTOBER
News at the Market: Boy, this weather sure isn’t helping in growing a garden. Although gardens need rain, we are getting an abundance of it, which makes it hard for plants to grow, and makes it hard to pick. The farmers are still coming up with squash, pepper, pumpkins, egg plant, okra, turnip greens, mustard, collards, sweet potatoes, peanuts, and for fruit, pears, and a few watermelon. We also have gourds, hay, for fall decorations, and check with Joe Pearson for some live mums.
Out in the field: We aren’t doing to much in the fields, because of the rain that we are getting, but hopefully we already have a lot of what we needed to have planted. Last week we had a week to plant, where it wasn’t raining, so Charles and I got our onions, mustard, turnip greens, kale, and about 500 collard plants out. They are going to be a little later coming in, but that is ok.
Upcoming Events: On October 17 we are planning our Appreciation Day to our customers at the market. Please plan on coming down and seeing what we have. We will have free coffee, and hot chocolate, with cookies and donuts. Then on November 21, we are having our Christmas kick-off, with Christmas greenery, wreaths, garlands, and all kinds of Christmas decorations. Be sure to keep up with what’s happening at the market on face book.
Thanks,
Alice Parker
