News at the Market: The market is still going strong. We have collards, turnip greens, turnip roots, mustard, onions, broccoli, cabbage, and kale.We have lots of Christmas greenery, Wreaths of all sizes, garlands to order, and bows of all colors. The wreaths are made out of boxwood, cedar, pine, and rosemary. Very, very pretty. We will close the market for this year on December 22. We usually open again the 1st Saturday in April. Out in the field: We haven’t been able to do much in the fields this fall and winter as the rain keeps coming down. The farmers that sell fire wood are having a hard time getting their loads out of the woods. They keep getting stuck, and there is no way we can get into the fields. Even to pick the greens we sink into the mud up to our ankles. Charles and I have had a really hard time covering our hoop houses this year. We have oranges in them, which can take a little cold, but not a whole lot, so we cover them up. Last year we covered with a cloth fabric, which did fine until the snow. It was too heavy and split the cover in several places, needless to say, we didn’t have too many oranges this year. This year we are covering in plastic, with side curtains that we can drop down when the weather gets warm. We have really had a struggle getting the top of the hoop houses covered, and then last night, I swear we had 100 mile an hour winds. Now you tell me if you think plastic will hold up under that . Actually it did pretty good.Remember we will be closed after December 22. I will still write a news letter to let you know what we are doing, at home, to get ready for the next year.
